Maine forest land returns to Penobscot Nation in September 2026. This marks the first phase of restoring over thirty thousand acres of homeland. The project began in 2023 with a fundraising goal of thirty-two point five million dollars. Currently, twenty point seven million dollars has been raised for the ongoing effort. Ownership grants the Penobscot Nation greater authority over land management and conservation.
