New Somerset wetland attracts rare wildlife after river restoration

A river restoration project in Somerset, UK, has shown major benefits within a year of completion. By reconnecting the River Aller with its floodplain, researchers found reduced flood peaks, cleaner water, higher groundwater levels and a sharp rise in wetland habitat. The restored landscape has also attracted more wildlife, including fish, birds and water voles.
