Saree weaver with no engineering degree invented machine replacing 9,000 hand movements

Chintakindi Mallesham developed a groundbreaking machine designed to assist not only his mother but also fellow weavers in their craft. This innovative Laxmi Asu machine transformed the arduous Asu process involved in saree production, drastically decreasing the time and effort needed for yarn winding. As a result, weavers experienced a remarkable boost in productivity. Mallesham’s relentless commitment to his invention earned him prestigious recognition, culminating in a Padma Shri award.
