Years of ‘rotten egg’ smell in Florida prompt county to move against landfill

Residents near a landfill in Florida’s Lake County have complained of a persistent rotten-egg smell for years. Now, county commissioners have voted to move ahead with legal action against landfill operator Hubbard Construction and the state environmental agency. A 2025 study identified the Mount Dora-area landfill as the likely source of the recurring odour.
