Altman defends himself after admitting he got AI’s speed wrong; blames society again

Days after admitting he misjudged how quickly AI would disrupt the economy, Sam Altman has pushed back at critics of his AGI timeline, saying on X that his capability predictions were “actually quite good”. The OpenAI chief blames society and the economy for absorbing the technology slowly, not the technology itself. His defence follows a cover story in which Mark Chen put OpenAI at 80% of the way to artificial general intelligence.
