Connecticut woman donated island in husband’s memory to protect wildlife

Outer Island, once a charming summer getaway, has been transformed into a vital protected wildlife refuge. The island was generously donated to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by Elizabeth Hird in 1995, with the intention of preserving its natural resources and fostering education and research.
