Explained: What is Pegasus spyware that CIA used to hack into phones of Iran leaders

The CIA reportedly used Israeli-made Pegasus spyware to deceive Iran during a mission to rescue a downed US airman. The spyware, developed by NSO Group, was allegedly used to send false messages to Iranian leadership claiming the airman had been found. This operation aimed to facilitate the retrieval of one of two US airmen whose aircraft crashed in Iranian territory.
