GER hits 30%, but pace lags 2035 target

India’s higher education enrollment grew slowly in 2023-24. The Gross Enrolment Ratio reached thirty percent nationally. This pace challenges the fifty percent target by twenty thirty-five. Enrollment access remains uneven for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Private institutions lead college expansion across the country.
