GitHub’s base in India rises to 27mn, up 2mn this year

India boasts the fastest-growing developer community on GitHub, with over 27 million users and more than two million joining since early 2026. This surge is attributed to a new wave of AI-native developers, including students and teenagers, and increased access to AI-assisted coding tools that lower entry barriers and accelerate problem-solving.
