Government terms arbitration award on Indus Waters Treaty ‘illegal’

In a decisive move, India has dismissed an arbitration court’s ruling related to the Indus Waters Treaty, asserting that the court lacks authority over sovereign matters. This echoes India’s previous stance on a similar arbitration award. The Permanent Court of Arbitration urged India to respect its treaty obligations, but India firmly reaffirms that its suspension of treaty enforcement remains effective.
