Indian universities clock record gains in QS subject rankings 2026

India has made significant strides in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with 99 institutions featuring 599 times across 55 disciplines. Forty-four percent of entries improved, the highest among large systems, while 120 are new. IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi entered the top 50 in Computer Science, and AIIMS reached its highest-ever Medicine ranking (105th). Business, engineering, and emerging disciplines show notable growth, while Arts & Humanities remain the weakest area, highlighting India’s expanding but uneven global higher education presence.
