Mamdani announces rules to cancel Netflix, Amazon subscription in one click

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a first-in-the-nation “Click-to-Cancel” rule forcing Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and other subscription services to let customers cancel as easily as they signed up. Effective October 1, the rule bans phone-only cancellations and hidden hurdles, with penalties starting at $525 per violation. It revives a federal FTC policy struck down in 2025, now enforced at the city level.
