NBA trade news: Lakers pull off surprise Deandre Ayton trade for ex-Luka Doncic teammate

The Los Angeles Lakers traded Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for guard Jaden Hardy and second-round picks in 2031 and 2032, continuing an aggressive offseason centered on Luka Dončić and newly acquired center Walker Kessler. The deal gives Los Angeles additional backcourt depth, restores some future draft assets and clears the way for Kessler to become the starting center. Washington gains an experienced big man to strengthen its frontcourt while Alex Sarr recovers from foot surgery.
