New York Mayor Mamdani says companies like Netflix will now pay if you can’t cancel

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Click-to-Cancel rule is now in effect, requiring businesses to let customers cancel subscriptions the same way they signed up. Enforced by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, it covers streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+, as well as gym memberships. Violations carry civil penalties starting at $525 and possible refunds. New Yorkers can file complaints through a new online city portal.
