The CBI has apprehended the NHAI Project Director in Shillong, Aanand Singh Chouhan, along with two private individuals, for allegedly demanding a Rs 12 lakh bribe. The bribe was sought to clear a contractor’s pending payment of Rs 13.38 crore. An initial Rs 4 lakh advance was caught red-handed during a sting operation, leading to the arrests and ongoing investigations.
