Palestine to hold first legislative election in nearly two decades

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called legislative elections for November 28. This announcement revives a democratic process frozen for nearly two decades. The vote will be the first parliamentary election since 2006, following a significant political split. International pressure for governance reforms and accountability has also influenced this decision. Presidential elections are separately planned for early 2027.
