Power consumption in May rose nearly 11% year-on-year

India’s electricity consumption surged by nearly 11% in May year-on-year, fueled by intense heatwaves that drove up air conditioner usage. Peak demand reached an all-time high of 270.8 GW on May 21. Despite a subsequent decline, high power demand is anticipated to continue into June due to El Niño conditions.
