Southwest monsoon hits Kerala; IMD warns of weak season

Kerala welcomes the southwest monsoon, marking the start of its four-month wet season. This year’s rains are making a delayed entrance, with the India Meteorological Department predicting a deficit, estimating rainfall at only 90% of what is typically expected. Experts link this shortfall to the brewing El Niño, which may intensify by September.
