US released Asian lady beetles to fight pests; decades later, they became invasive

Originally imported to the United States for biological pest control, the multicoloured Asian lady beetle, or Harmonia axyridis, has turned invasive. Competing with native ladybugs, this species disrupts ecosystems. While it helps manage aphid populations, its autumn behavior drives adult beetles to invade homes, creating an unwanted nuisance. This case serves as a cautionary tale about the unintended effects of introducing nonnative species into local environments.
