USS Colorado took 22 hits in the 1944 battle but stayed in action

On July 24, 1944, hidden Japanese shore guns struck USS Colorado 22 times during the invasion of Tinian, killing 43 crew members and wounding 198. Despite the damage, the battleship continued firing and helped support the landings. Tinian was later captured and became a major U.S. bomber base in the Pacific.
