Venezuela earthquake: State of emergency declared; death toll feared between 10,000 and 1 lakh

In the wake of devastating twin earthquakes, Venezuela has declared a national state of emergency. Infrastructure has been severely impacted, with many buildings reduced to rubble and fears of casualties potentially soaring between 10,000 and 100,000, according to the USGS. Rescue operations have been hindered, especially in the capital Caracas and at Maiquetia International Airport, where damage is extensive.
