3 years, 50,000 rifles later: Why US Army is moving on from the M7

In December, the US Army will introduce the M8 carbine, a new weapon designed for improved soldier mobility. This carbine addresses feedback regarding the cumbersome nature of the M7 rifle; it is about a pound lighter and features a shorter barrel. Sig Sauer states that the M8 will offer enhanced performance while maintaining compatibility with the existing 6.8mm ammunition system, equipping soldiers with advanced capabilities.
