Halley’s Comet takes about 76 years to orbit the Sun and will return to our skies in 2061

Halley’s Comet will next reach its closest point to the Sun in July 2061. This famous comet completes its orbit around the Sun approximately every 76 years. Its previous visit occurred in 1986, and the next is expected in 2134. The comet’s debris creates the Eta Aquarids and Orionids meteor showers annually. Future missions will investigate Halley’s composition and structure upon its return.
