California crews uncover possible 45-million-year-old ‘thunder beast’ fossils

Fossilised bones from a large hoofed mammal were uncovered during an excavation project in Oceanside, California. Paleontologists are studying the remains, which may belong to a thunder beast or a swamp rhino. The discovery took place approximately 12 feet below the surface in the Santiago Formation’s sedimentary rock.
