India’s space programme has traditionally been driven almost entirely by Isro. Private companies manufactured components, supplied technology and supported missions, but orbital launches remained the domain of the state. Vikram-1 changed that equation. For the first time, an Indian private company has demonstrated the ability to develop and operate an orbital launch vehicle.
