Damaged da Vinci-linked painting bought for $1,175 in 2005 sold for $450m

In 2005, art dealers acquired Salvator Mundi for just $1,175, initially attributing it to an artist from Leonardo da Vinci’s circle. After extensive restoration and research, the painting was presented as a work by Leonardo in 2011. Its value soared dramatically, culminating in a record auction price of $450.3 million in 2017.
