India fuels Bitchat’s global rise despite takedown order

Bitchat, an internet-free messaging app, is gaining popularity in India. The app saw significant download increases in the week ending July 24. India accounted for over half of Bitchat’s global downloads during this period. Civil liberty groups have criticized the government’s actions as unconstitutional. The app has also climbed app store rankings significantly.
