National Commission for Women seeks gender-neutral childcare leave, shared caregiving by parents

National Commission for Women has proposed several recommendations to improve maternity and childcare laws in India. The commission advocates for gender-neutral childcare leave to be extended to the private sector. It also suggests increasing leave for adoptive mothers from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. Recommendations include creating more childcare facilities and offering maternity benefits to informal workers. The focus is on shared parenting and establishing family-friendly workplaces throughout the country.
