‘No need to respond in advance’: Canadian PM Mark Carney rules out retaliatory tariffs before Aug 19

Canada will not retaliate in advance against proposed US tariffs, preferring negotiations. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that premature action would be counterproductive at this stage. Ottawa is intensifying efforts to strike a comprehensive trade agreement with the United States. Canada has not ruled out measures if tariffs are imposed by Washington. The country is also working to reduce its dependence on the US market.
