Bitou bush was intentionally planted along the New South Wales coast to stabilize sand dunes. This plant has since spread extensively, covering 46% of the coastline and threatening native vegetation. Infestations of bitou bush replace native plant species and alter animal habitats throughout the region. A Threat Abatement Plan has been established to manage and contain this invasive species effectively.
