RBI swap scheme boosts private banks’ Q2 business numbers

Private banks witnessed considerable credit and deposit growth in the second quarter of FY27. This growth was driven by the RBI’s concessional dollar-rupee swap facility for FCNR(B) deposits. Major banks like Axis Bank, Kotak, and HDFC Bank reported varying growth figures, showing the impact of international branches. Although headline numbers appeared strong, underlying growth was more moderate after adjustments.
