A new study has found that heavy fishing may be changing pearly razorfish at the molecular level. Researchers found no major changes in the fish’s DNA but discovered differences in DNA methylation, an epigenetic process that affects how genes work. The study also found that marine reserves help preserve larger, older fish and maintain higher genetic diversity.
