Robert Moran, Seattle’s former mayor, made a monumental gift of thousands of acres for a state park. Following a serious illness, he relocated to Orcas Island, where he developed picturesque forest lands into a personal estate. His visionary donation led to the establishment of Washington’s first state park, named Moran State Park in his honor, which remains a beloved destination to this day.
