Rare bacterium found contaminating water reclamation plant linked to Meta’s datacenter

Cheyenne officials identified a Meta data center project as the source of rare bacterial contamination. This contamination temporarily shut down two of the city’s water reclamation plants. The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities has permanently stopped accepting industrial wastewater from similar cooling systems. The incident forced the Dry Creek and Crow Creek plants offline for several months. Officials are now reviewing their capacity to handle data center construction wastewater.
