Who pays what in a rental home? Property tax, maintenance and utility bills explained

In India, property taxes are fundamentally the responsibility of the property owner as per municipal regulations. Meanwhile, utility expenses for water and electricity are usually settled by the tenant who consumes these services. Maintenance fees of housing societies are generally charged to owners, but tenancy agreements can sometimes allocate part of these costs to renters. Clarifying these responsibilities helps avoid conflicts between landlords and tenants.
